Protection Team Leader - Child Protection

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified  Protection Team Leader - Child Protection .

About the job 

The Protection Team Leader - Child Protection will be responsible for technically sound day to day implementation of DRC’s Child Protection programming for children, caregivers and their communities in Tripoli. They will line manage a team of 11 protection staff, one Child Protection Officer and 10 Protection Assistants. The programme is a comprehensive Child Protection programme, inclusive of Child friendly spaces, child protection case management as well as interventions in schools for which the post holder will be expected to ensure intervention fidelity including providing technical supervision to case workers.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be: 

Team Management 

• Coordinate with the Program Manager in recruitment processes for team members, as relevant and ensure compliance with DRC On- and off boarding SOPs. 
• Ensure that all team members fulfil their role as per their job description, in line with DRC Code of Conduct, providing timely and constructive feedback as required. 
• Execute performance management of team members with appropriate involvement of the technical line manager and in keeping with DRC HR policies 
• Support professional development of team members and development and implementation of capacity building and ongoing technical support plans 
• Organise efficient field presence and workload distribution among team members, ensuring compliance with technical SoPs and guidance 
• Encourage a positive, inclusive and mutually supportive team spirit among the team under his/her supervision and an overall spirit of wellbeing 
• Coordinate leave plans and schedules to ensure effective and efficient implementation of program activities. 

Training, Supervision and Ongoing Technical Support 

• Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of CP concepts and programming and be an agent in own technical progression through ongoing learning and technical exchange with Protection Specialist - Child Protection and other members of the Protection Programme Coordination team 
• Apply this knowledge and enable technical quality control and advancement of team members by co-facilitating trainings based on advice of Protection Specialist— Child Protection, making field visits with a technical emphasis and ensuring implementation refinement based to technical observations with appropriate involvement of technical and hierarchical referents 
• Running regular technical supervision for case management teams in accord with CP Minimum Standards 
• Coaching on technical topics and skills for team member implementing activities in child-friendly spaces and community-based mechanisms 
• Delivering trainings on CP topics for other DRC sectors and CP stakeholders on request and with technical support 

Implementation, PIM & MEAL 

• Under guidance and supervision of the Program Manager, plan and oversee implementation of CP activities 
• Ensure compliance with CP Minimum Standards, DRC Child Protection policy and applicable DRC Global and ALT Protection guidance and SoPs in CP operations 
• Lead team members in following Protection information management (PIM) principles, ensuring data confidentiality, gathering data as per project and sector requirements, entering and storing data in accord with DRC and, if applicable, CP inter-agency coordination reporting requirements with specific support to team members on data quality 
• Providing data analysis and reporting, in collaboration with the PIM officer, for internal DRC MEAL processes and project requirements at the frequency requested by the Program manager and Protection Programme Coordination team 
• Lead CP contribution of ongoing service mapping exercises and community analyses 
• Engage in bilateral and coordination relationships with counterparts in fellow CP specific agencies and with stakeholders in CP, in agreement with the scope set out by line manager 
• Provide mentorship for direct reports in day to day implementation tasks 

Logistics and Finance 

• Plan and coordinate logistics and movements from and to different operational areas collaborating appropriately with other Protection teams and DRC Support teams 
• Initiate procurements in accord with procurement plan and fulfil Protection sector obligations to ensure their execution 
• Ensure distribution plans are prepared and shared with logistics in a timely manner 
• Manage the team’s cash advances and cash for protection activities within project scope in accord with DRC support procedures and grant requirements; support Manager in budget forecasting and tracking tasks 

About you 

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a Minimum 3 years of practical experience working for an NGO, INGO, a UN agency or other duty bearer in Protection. INGO experience in humanitarian response and protection, especially child protection or other programmes working with children (e.g. MHPSS) is highly preferred.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

• Demonstrable competence in people management, with preference for proven management experience at minimum mid level for an implementing team 
• Past experience in emphasizing practical field experience and doing technical supervision in Protection and preferably Child Protection Case Management is a strong advantage 
• Demonstrated capacity to effectively represent a humanitarian organization with the individuals and communities and build trust 
• The successful candidate will demonstrate a good grasp of the technical and core humanitarian competencies of Child Protection in Humanitarian Action in the course of the recruitment process 
• Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Past experience in ERP systems will be appreciated. 
• Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity, ability, and willingness to work with all groups of the conflict-affected population, including vulnerable migrants and refugees. 
• Field-oriented attitude and strong humanitarian spirit. 
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to Child Protection operations such as social work, psychology, education etc. 
• Full professional proficiency in English 
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic. 
• Basic knowledge of additional languages will be an advantage
