Carbon Accounting Manager

Main purpose of the position
Carbon Accounting and disclosure are a legal requirement of ISS, a legal/functional requirement form countries and a contractual requirement from customers. Carbon numbers are published in the annual report and therefore subject to 3rd party audit. Carbon reporting leverages >120 data sources from country and global systems. Furthermore the data is cleansed, adjusted and converted into carbon by relying on IT systems, human interaction and external conversion factors. This role is responsible for managing the collection, conversion, controlling, calculation and assurance of the data and the processes. This is a highly specialised role that must also work with internal stakeholders and customers and be able to make decisions in the absence of certainty
What you’ll do:
- Own and manage day-to-day relationships with Watershed, customers, Finance, countries
- Be accountable for quarterly carbon data collection, input validation and reconciliations.
- Deliver quarterly carbon reporting to countries and ad-hoc reports to CDP, Ecovadis etc
- Drive continuous improvements in processes, performance and technical interventions.
- Drive accountability in operations by providing high quality analytics & recommendations
- Ensure that decarbonisation programmes are measured and auditable in Watershed.
- Ensure full annual and interim audit compliance requirements are met.
- Manage year-end and Interim audits, including all follow up actions
- Compile, check and complete all data models, proxy data sets and reference data sets required for carbon calculations
- Own all restatements, rebaselining and methodology changes and ensure that they are done to an auditable level
- Produce customer carbon reports, advising on hotspot, blind spot and problem areas
- Deputise for the Head of Climate Impact as required
- If requested expand Watershed reporting to include Social sustainability reporting

Key qualifications:
- Expertise in carbon accounting, familiarity with Watershed would be advantageous
- Proficient in carbon and financial controlling, as well as audit processes
- Skilled in data analytics and reporting
- Advanced degree in finance, sustainability, engineering, or science
- At least 8 years of relevant professional experience
Personal skills you excel:
- Ability to lead and develop a small junior team
Success criteria:
- Quarterly carbon footprint generation
- Interim report success
- Annual report successfully completed
- Customer reports produced within SLA and to high quality
- Models and methods updated
- Keeping ISS Carbon Accounting at the forefront of industry standards and best practices
- Closing out all reasonable assurance findings and remedial actions
- Independent problem solving with minimal oversight/ supervision
