ABOUT THE JOB

Flatpay is on a mission to simplify payments for small and medium-sized businesses. We provide transparent, low-cost payment solutions combined with fast onboarding and real human support - fair pricing, great technology, and local support that merchants can rely on. One of the fastest-growing fintech companies out of the Nordics and Denmark's fastest-ever unicorn, we've scaled to 2,500+ colleagues across multiple markets, and we're just getting started.

Pay is our terminal-only product: a card terminal, flat transparent pricing, and nothing the merchant has to configure. It is the product most of our merchants gets first, it carries the majority of our processing volume, and it is the product we lead with in every new market.

This is a deliberately commercial product leadership role. Flatpay's whole model rests on a single visit: a rep walks into a bakery, a salon or a bike shop unannounced, explains flat, transparent pricing, demos the terminal, installs it and trains the staff. Everything Pay does exists to make that visit convert and to keep the merchant on the terminal afterwards. If you've only ever led product through a research team and a dashboard, this won't be the role for you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Own Pay end to end

• Own the Pay product globally - terminal hardware, the payment experience, onboarding and activation, the merchant app, settlement and reporting. One roadmap, all markets.

• Set the Pay strategy and defend it: what we build, what we deliberately do not build, and what stays the same across every market so the product does not fragment as we add countries.

• Keep the product radically simple. Our merchants are not technical and have no IT function; simplicity is the product, and protecting it is your job before it is anyone else's.

Lead the team

• Lead and grow the Pay product team (three PMs today, with the reporting track dotted in), setting the bar for discovery, delivery and written thinking.

• Be a player-coach. You'll run your own track on the hardest problems, not only review other people's.

• Partner with Engineering, Design and Data in Copenhagen to turn the Pay roadmap into shipped product on roughly two-month cycles, MVP mindset - get it live, learn, iterate.

The field

• Get out into the field. Sit with merchants, ride along with sales, spend time with support, and turn what you hear into product decisions. We expect this of a Head of Pay as much as of a PM.

• Partner with Sales, Support and Marketing across markets to surface what is actually happening with merchants, and feed it straight into the roadmap.

• Build and hold the competitive view for Pay: how competitors package and price terminal and Pay-only offers in Europe and the US, and where they are beatable.

Markets and expansion

• Make Pay launch-ready for each new market - acquiring setup, local payment behaviour, regulation, hardware logistics - and work with the US team in New York on what the US needs from the European product.

• Own outcome metrics for Pay: activation, processing volume, retention, churn, support load, and the commercial metrics above.

WHO YOU ARE

• 3+ years in product, with experience leading product managers - and still extremely hands-on.

• A commercial, results-driven mindset. You think in merchants, conversion, volume and margin, and you can point to a pricing or product decision you made that moved one of them.

• Evidence of field-driven discovery: a decision you can name that came directly from time in front of merchants or sales, not from a research readout.

• A track record of shipping fast in a low-structure environment, and comfort building the structure as you go rather than waiting for it.

• A generalist and builder who thrives in a fast-paced scale-up and is happy working outside their comfort zone.

• Excellent stakeholder management across functions, markets and time zones, and excellent written and spoken English.

AI IS PART OF THE JOB

• Flatpay's cost advantage comes from doing things with fewer people than the incumbents. AI is how we keep that true as we add markets, and we expect a Head of Pay to treat it as part of the product, not as a side project.

• Use it yourself, daily. You prototype with it, you write specs and analysis with it, you run your own competitive and pricing research with it. You'll be setting the bar for three PMs, and the bar is that a PM who cannot get a working prototype or a data answer in an afternoon is slower than the role now requires.

• Know where it does not belong. Nothing in the authorisation path, nothing the merchant has to supervise, nothing that makes a terminal less predictable. Our merchants are not technical and have no IT function.

• Be honest about the economics. Inference cost, error rate and the cost of being wrong are product decisions. You should be able to argue why a model belongs in a flow at our volumes, or why a rule set is the better answer.
