Postdoc in Operando Electrocatalysis and Sustainable Electrosynthesis - DTU Chemistry
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)
Are you excited by the idea of uncovering how catalytic interfaces evolve in real time and using this knowledge to design the next generation of sustainable chemical synthesis?
At the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), we are developing new electrocatalytic systems capable of converting abundant molecules such as CO 2 , nitrogen-, and sulfur-containing species into valuable chemicals and fuels powered by renewable electricity. We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Postdoctoral Researcher to join the newly established research group of Assistant Professor Antonia Herzog at DTU Chemistry. The position is part of the Villum Young Investigator project ElectraX: Electrocatalytic Routes to Carbon-X Bonds for a Sustainable Chemical Future. The project combines electrocatalysis, operando spectroscopy, automated experimentation, and multimetallic catalyst discovery to establish new principles for sustainable electrosynthesis.
You will join a highly interdisciplinary and international research environment at the interface of electrochemistry, catalysis, spectroscopy, materials science, and sustainable energy technologies. We aim to create an ambitious, collaborative, and supportive research culture where creativity, scientific curiosity, and independence are strongly encouraged.
Responsibilities and qualifications
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will contribute to the development of new catalyst systems and experimental methodologies for sustainable electrosynthesis, including:
- Design and synthesis of electrocatalysts, including multimetallic alloy systems
- Operando and in situ characterization using Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron-based X-ray techniques
- Development of accelerated and high-throughput experimental workflows
- Analysis and interpretation of electrochemical and spectroscopic datasets
- Collaboration with international research partners and synchrotron facilities
- Dissemination of research through publications and presentations at international conferences
- Mentoring and co-supervision of MSc and PhD students
We are seeking a curious and ambitious postdoctoral candidate who thrives on scientific challenges and interdisciplinary collaboration. The ideal candidate should have:
- A PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, or a related field
- Experience in electrocatalysis and electrochemistry
- Experience with synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS)
- Experience with automation, high-throughput experimentation, data analysis, machine learning, or programming (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international research environment
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
Assessment
The assessment of the applicant will be made by Assistant Professor Antonia Herzog.
