At Opoura, you will work across a broad part of the control product lifecycle, from requirements and control logic to simulation, testing, commissioning feedback and product improvements. You will see how your engineering decisions perform in the wider plant and use what you learn to improve the product.

You will do this across wind, solar, BESS, PtX and hybrid power plants. The role combines the depth of a specialist position with the technical breadth and influence that come with being part of a small engineering team.

Your role

You will join our Control & Communication team, which currently consists of four colleagues based in Silkeborg and Hamburg. You will report to Adina-Elena Balea, Director Control & Communication, who is based in Cluj-Napoca, and work as part of an international engineering setup.

In a team of this size, your contribution is visible. You will have room to influence technical solutions as well as how the team approaches development, testing and validation. At the same time, you will work closely with colleagues in Software, SCADA, Product, Grid Modeling and commissioning, giving you insight into the wider system rather than one isolated part of it.

A piece of work might start with a new product or grid requirement, an unexpected result during testing, or an observation from commissioning. You may help define the intended controller behavior, reason through modes, limits and priorities, validate the solution in simulation, and later use field feedback to improve the product further.

This is not primarily a power-system studies or consultancy role. The role is centered on practical product development: building control functionality that can be implemented, tested, maintained and scaled across projects and markets.

The role is preferably based in Silkeborg, Denmark, but can also be located at our offices in Hannover, Germany, or Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Some travel should be expected for collaboration, testing or commissioning activities.

Your main responsibilities will be

• Develop and improve power plant controller functionality for wind, solar, BESS, PtX and hybrid power plants.

• Translate product, project, market and grid-related requirements into practical and reliable control behavior.

• Develop and validate functionality using simulation models, structured test environments and methods such as SIL or HIL where relevant.

• Investigate unexpected behavior during testing, commissioning or field operation and turn findings into robust product improvements.

• Work across Software, SCADA, Grid Modeling, Product and commissioning to ensure control functionality works as part of the complete system.

• Strengthen how controller functionality is developed, tested, documented and maintained as the product evolves.

• Bring structure to complex technical problems without overcomplicating the solution.

Your background

You are likely an engineer who enjoys the point where control theory becomes working functionality. Your background may come from renewable energy, industrial automation, electrical engineering or another technically demanding control environment.

More important than a specific industry label is that you have worked with real control systems and understand what it takes to make functionality reliable, testable and maintainable.

We expect that you bring:

• Hands-on experience with control engineering, automation or industrial control systems.

• Experience developing or implementing control functionality, not only analyzing it.

• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or comparable control modeling environments.

• Experience with simulation, structured validation, SIL, HIL or similar test approaches.

• Familiarity with PLC or industrial control development environments.

• Experience with Git or other version control tools.

• Professional proficiency in English.

Experience with renewable power plants, BESS, power plant controllers or grid-related control is valuable, but we do not expect you to arrive as an expert in every technology or grid domain.

A degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Automation, Power Engineering or a related discipline can provide a useful foundation. Demonstrated engineering capability matters more than the exact title of your degree.
