Backup Administrator

The Senior Backup Administrator at Sentia (an Aeven Group company) is responsible for the support, maintenance, and continuous development of Sentia’s backup infrastructure across all environments. This role provides 2nd and 3rd line technical support for backup platforms and services, ensuring the reliable delivery of backup solutions for both Sentia’s production environments and customers utilizing external backup services.

As a production-focused role, the position may require participation in off-hours support and incident response activities. The Senior Backup Administrator is accountable for owning, tracking, and resolving backup-related incidents and service requests, ensuring all activities are completed within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

The role includes proactive monitoring of backup operations, validating the successful completion of daily backup jobs, producing operational reports, and ensuring incidents are managed and resolved within SLA targets. The Senior Backup Administrator is also responsible for maintaining the backup infrastructure, identifying and resolving operational issues, and collaborating with team members to develop and implement strategic, long-term solutions that enhance service reliability, performance, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Design, administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and continuously improve enterprise backup solutions based on Veeam and IBM Spectrum Protect.
• Perform daily monitoring and operational management of backup environments to ensure successful backup and recovery operations.
• Monitor backup jobs, investigate warnings and failures, execute restore requests, and implement corrective actions to maintain service availability.
• Review and analyze daily backup reports, identify issues proactively, and ensure all incidents are resolved within agreed service levels.
• Ensure all servers and virtual machines are protected by validating backup policies, configurations, and assigned backup tags.
• Conduct regular backup recovery, failover, and restore testing to verify backup integrity and recovery readiness.
• Monitor backup infrastructure health, including backup consoles, storage targets, and capacity utilization, and take proactive action to prevent service disruptions.
• Manage backup licensing, track consumption trends, and ensure sufficient license availability to support business requirements.
• Perform quarterly backup audits, disaster recovery (DR) exercises, and failover tests to validate operational resilience and compliance requirements.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute disaster recovery testing activities, ensuring DR procedures and runbooks remain accurate and up to date.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives by optimizing backup processes, reporting, automation, and infrastructure efficiency.
• Develop and enhance backup monitoring and reporting capabilities using built-in platform features and custom scripting where appropriate.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge articles for backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Provide guidance, knowledge sharing, and training to team members on backup technologies, recovery processes, and disaster recovery best practices.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in backup configuration, installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Veeam and IBM Spectrum Protect certifications are a plus.
• Expert knowledge of Disaster Recovery (DR) principles and practices. Hands-on experience with Veeam as a backup solution is required.
• In-depth knowledge of Veeam Backup & Replication and its architecture, including networking, backup proxies, and backup storage.
• Knowledge of BCDR (Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery) improvements and best practices
