About the role

Overall purpose of the role:

Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader, the Protection Officer (PSS) is responsible for the timely, high-quality, and effective provision of psychosocial support (PSS) activities in Al Turbah (Al Shamayateen – Al Mawasit) districts. The Protection Officer will be responsible to create activity schedules, review PSS activity plans, provide technical support to the PSS facilitators, as well as conduct PSS activities directly. In addition, the PSS Officer will support the running of the community centers in Al Turbah (Al Shamayateen – Al Mawasit)

Main responsibilities:

PSS intervention

• Oversee the implementation of all recreational and PSS activities for children, youth and adults at DRC community centers and in IDP sites;
• Conduct information sharing sessions and awareness sessions in DRC community centers on topics previously identified and agreed with the Protection Manager and the PSS Specialist;
• Raise awareness about the activities in the centers and in the IDP sites with the community, including with community leaders and focal points;
• Provide technical support to the PSS team, including PSS Assistant and CC Facilitators during activities’ implementation;
• Monitor the correct use and storage of material by PSS Assistants and Facilitators;
• When needed, directly implement PSS and recreational activities at the community centers and in IDP sites through mobile units;
• Lead the set-up and organization of spaces and materials in the community center in preparation for the PSS, recreational, awareness raising, and information dissemination activities;
• Develop and maintain a schedule of activities at the community centers in collaboration with the PSS team;
• Identify new areas and locations for mobile PSS and together with the Assistant develop schedules for mobile PSS activities;
• Support the Protection Team Leader in conducting PSS team meetings to ensure adherence to standards of care and DRC PSS SoPs as well as quality PSS services;
• Identifying needs for material and equipment to conduct activities and lead on the procurement of materials and other center needs;
• Safely identify and refer members of the community who require additional assistance and services in accordance with defined referral pathways and SOPs;
• Manage the center cleaners and lead on the administrative procedures associated (contract, attendance, payment etc.);
• In collaboration with PSS Assistants and Facilitators, conduct FGDs with beneficiaries to collect feedback on ongoing activities and suggestions on new interventions;
• In collaboration with CC Facilitators and Protection Assistant share with the Protection Team Leader new ideas for activities based on identify needs and requests of beneficiaries;
• Act as PSS Team Focal point for Protection Team Leader and Program Manager.

Monitoring and reporting

• Produce and submit weekly reports and updated databases/tracking sheets to the Protection Team Leader;
• Provide inputs for monthly and quarterly reports to the Protection Team Leader;
• Accurately revise and update the weekly activities tracker, ensuing adherence to data protection protocols;
• Support the implementation of monitoring and evaluation tools;
• Follow up with Protection Assistant and CC Facilitators to ensure all paperwork is properly filed in adherence with data protection and DRC protocols;
• Identify capacity gaps withing the PSS team as well as implementation’s challenges and report them to the Protection Team Leader and Protection PM; 
• Compile the weekly reports from the community centers and upload it on SharePoint for the Team Leader revision;
• Support the Protection Team Leader to revise the monthly data shared by the IM officer, ensuring accuracy of reported information, and avoiding any duplication.

Coordination and representation

• Together with the Protection Team Leader, regularly engage with community committees, leaders, and local authorities to ensure support for DRC PSS activities and community centers;
• Collaborate with other DRC sectors and NGOs to ensure a coordinated and collaborative response to the provision of services and assistance for those attending activities at the community centers;
• Develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and service providers;
• Oversee and ensure the maintenance of an up-to-date service mapping of the service providers operating in the area and ensure that staff are informed about the available services.

Other

• Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Protection Team Leader or Protection Manager;
• Maintain positive work relationship within the team, and promote team-building efforts in coordination with the Protection Team Leader;
• Must adhere to DRC’s mission, values, code of conduct including respect for the principles of neutrality, do no harm and non-discrimination;
• Must treat all partners and beneficiaries with dignity and respect.
• Participate in training and coaching as required on PSS curricula, the relevant SOPs and the data filing and storing procedures.

Experience and technical competencies:

• At least 3 years of experience in protection services or relevant humanitarian action;
• Must have at least 1 year experience implementing or overseeing PSS activities;
• Ability to provide technical support, trainings and supervision to assistants;
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of clients at all times;
• Strong written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties;
• Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, work independently and prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail;
• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility;
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel);
• Willing to collaborate with and support people from different ethnic groups and different religions;
• Demonstrated interest in humanitarian work and supporting people effected by conflict.

Education:

• Bachelor/Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or closely related field; proven field experience can be accepted in lieu.

• Arabic - Fluent
• English – Advance

Contract length: June 30, 2027

Position Band: This position will be placed in the Management (H2) band. Reports to the Protection Team Leader.

Start date: ASAP

Duty station: Al Turbah (Al Shamayateen – Al Mawasit).

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s National Terms of Employment.
