The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics invites applications for a dedicated academic employee. Join our inclusive laboratory and contribute meaningfully as a core member of a research team, mentored by Professor Simona Radutoiu.

We are at the forefront of researching plant-bacterial symbiosis with the goal of unlocking the full potential of both plants and bacteria to foster sustainable and climate-friendly agricultural practices. Our research is funded by ambitious programs, and our team consists of dedicated scientists and students committed to advancing knowledge and achieving project goals efficiently. Our research focuses on understanding the intricate interactions between plants and bacterial communities and is pivotal in current research and agricultural needs.

Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a fixed-term position starting 15 October 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter, to end on 31 March 2028.

Job description
You will contribute to our molecular biology projects, playing an important role in supporting our research projects on plants during their interactions with microbes:

• Molecular Cloning Projects: Design and execute projects involving molecular biology protocols at DNA, RNA and protein level.
• Perform cloning projects and genetic transformations of bacteria and plants.
• Perform advanced molecular biology techniques including PCR, restriction digests, ligations, and transformations.
• Manage acquisitions and exchanges of plant and molecular tools for the group.
• Support researchers with specialized cloning needs and protocol optimization.
• Keep detailed records of cloning work and procurement activities.
• Contribute to activities of the group related to purchasing, coordinate supplier relationships, and oversee inventory management.
• Maintain and troubleshoot molecular biology equipment and protocols.
• Coordinate with finance department using SDI and RejsUd systems.
• Mentor students in molecular cloning techniques.

Your profile
Our ideal candidate:

• Has completed a master’s degree in a biology-related field.
• Has strong experience in molecular biology techniques involving gene cloning.
• Has expertise in working with DNA, RNA and proteins.
• Is able to work with bacteria and large library preparations in a high throughput manner.
• Is well-organized with excellent procurement and inventory management skills.
• Can work independently on research projects while supporting team needs.
• Can perform complex tasks also in periods of intense activities.
• Can assist with data entry and laboratory database maintenance.
• Is collaborative and enjoys working in an international research environment.
• Communicates effectively in English (working language of our group).
• Has experience with SDI and RejsUd – preferred, but not mandatory.
• Has a driving license (category B).

Who we are
The Plant Molecular Biology section's activities focus on genetic, molecular and biochemical research in the model plant Lotus japonicus as well as several crop plants such as cassava, barley, maize and wheat.

The research seeks to elucidate and understand the mechanisms behind genetic control of signal transduction, cell differentiation, developmental processes, local adaptation and plant-microbe interactions. Key research areas include symbiotic nitrogen fixation, plant perception of microbial signaling molecules, susceptibility to pathogens and colonization by symbiotic and endophytic bacteria/fungi.

Formalities and salary range
Salary and terms as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Unions.

You will be employed as an academic staff member at basic salary grades 4–8.
