PhD Student in Effect of Amine-carry on CO2 Transport - DTU Chemical Engineering
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)
DTU Chemical Engineering is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on CO 2 quality assessment, and pilot-scale CO 2 capture.
The position is part of a large MSCA project called MISSION-CCS focused towards accelerating the implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies worldwide.
You will investigate amine-carry over in CO 2 produced in CO 2 capture. Small impurities will be carried into the gas transportation system which include compression and liquefaction. The impurities will pose a safety and lifetime estimation risk to the system as they are very corrosive.
There is a need to expand the knowledge of impurities during transportation of compressed and liquefied CO 2 under the impact of relevant impurities. The investigations must consider corrosion and lifetime estimation to qualify the materials used for the transportation of CO 2 .
We expect you to have knowledge from the lab and an understanding of the chemistry in these systems. We expect you to be motivated by traveling and being abroad.
We seek a highly motivated candidate with a background in chemical or process engineering and strong experimental and analytical skills.
Join us to drive innovation in carbon capture and contribute to shaping Europe’s low-carbon energy future.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to contribute to strengthen the department’s competences within chemical CO 2 capture technology. You will work with in a team of 25 colleagues dealing with CCUS, and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad.
Your primary tasks will be to:
- Perform physical-chemical analysis of solvents and gases
- Perform corrosion experiments
- Understand and analyse data from large scale DTU pilots
- Conduct pilot-scale CO 2 capture experiments up to TRL7
- Travel to secondments at the University of Leeds in the UK, Institut for Energiteknikk (IFE) in Norway, and Wood group in UK.
The preferred candidate should have the following qualifications:
- Experiences with chemical analysis and pilot experiments is an advantage
- Data analytical skills and computer science
- Knowledge of thermodynamics is an advantage
- High level of motivation, responsibility and flexibility
- Strong motivation and good collaborative skills
- Excellent English skills, written and spoken
In addition, applicants will be required to meet the MSCA Doctoral Network eligibility criteria, notably:
- You must not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the start of your employment at DTU.
- Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention are not taken into account.
You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education .
Assessment
The assessment of the applicants will be made by Associate Professor Philip Loldrup Fosbøl.
We offer
