At the department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology, The Faculty of IT and Design, a full-time firm position as Associate professor in Architecture is available from October 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is affiliated to the integrated architecture research environment at Aalborg University and should contribute to the strengthening of the department’s research profile within architecture at the intersections between architectural design and engineering. The research field of architecture at Aalborg University is characterized by a diverse and interdisciplinary research environment that integrates and holistically addresses the interrelation of architecture and engineering with the overall purpose of strengthening the quality of the built environment along with the quality of human and non-human life. Your competencies
At Aalborg University, the architecture research environment works cross-disciplinary integrating functional, technical, social, and aesthetic elements of architecture and we expect that the applicant master’s architectural research within an integrated design perspective. Thus, we are seeking an applicant with a background in Architecture that works from an integrated design thinking perspective with architectural theory and design-based methods. The applicant has a strong research trajectory within areas such as social sustainability, spatial justice, diversity, speculative architecture, futures and imagination.
Next to architectural design competencies and skills, the candidate has experience in conducting research using diverse methods and approaches; producing publications, visual materials, and prototypes; and collaborating with interdisciplinary partners. Furthermore, the applicant has experience with teaching in the field of integrated architecture.

Your work tasks
The position is a permanent position, and it is required that the applicant has research and teaching qualifications corresponding with level achieved from a successful employment as assistant professor or similar. The applicant must document scientific production within the research field, and it is expected that the applicant will contribute to the knowledge production of the department by conducting and disseminating research and developing and applying for externally funded research projects.

The position includes teaching obligations at both undergraduate and master's level, including supervising PhD’s and master thesis students as well as other related work at the department and educational programs. The philosophy of teaching in Architecture at Aalborg University is integrated architectural design based on Problem Based Learning. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.

Qualification requirements
Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor but may also be obtained in other ways.

It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.

You will be employed at the Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology at Aalborg University and anchored in the section of Architecture and Urban Design and specifically affiliated the Integrated Architecture research group, which has a human-centered approach to architecture with the aim to design and operate sustainable built environments.

Salary and terms of employment
The employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministerial Order on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (in Danish) and protocol on certain terms of employment of academic staff at universities (in Danish).

Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state (AC collective agreement) (in Danish) and protocol on certain terms of employment of academic staff at universities (in Danish).

There is a mutual probationary period of 3 months for the position.
