ABOUT ATHME

athme is building the sports and community layer for cities. Our platform helps people discover activities, join games, meet others, and build real-world communities through sport. We are looking for a Founding AI Engineer to help us integrate AI into the athme product and operations in ways that create real value for users, organizers, and our team.

THE ROLE

This is a product-focused AI engineering role. You will not be researching or training foundation models from scratch. You will use existing AI models and technologies to build and ship practical features inside athme. This could include smarter recommendations, improved search and matching, AI-assisted event creation, personalized onboarding, automated support, community insights, and internal tools. You will work closely with our CTO and founders to identify the strongest opportunities, prototype quickly, and bring successful ideas into production.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Build and integrate AI-powered features into the athme product
• Connect AI models and services with our existing mobile app, backend, APIs, and data
• Own features from idea and prototype through deployment and improvement
• Improve recommendations, discovery, matching, personalization, and automation
• Build reliable systems with proper testing, monitoring, and fallback logic
• Evaluate different models based on quality, speed, cost, and privacy
• Help shape athme’s AI roadmap and technical direction
• Contribute to the wider product and engineering team where needed

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Mid to senior-level engineering experience with a strong record of shipping real products
• Practical experience building applications with AI models, APIs, embeddings, agents, recommendation systems, or similar technologies
• Strong backend and system architecture fundamentals
• Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, Python, APIs, and databases
• Experience with React Native and MongoDB is a strong advantage
• Strong product judgment and the ability to focus on useful features, not AI for the sake of AI
• A proactive builder who moves quickly, takes ownership, and works well in an early-stage environment

Previous experience with consumer apps, marketplaces, social products, or startups is a strong advantage.
