The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University, calls for applications for a 3-year postdoctoral position in pig nutrition with focus on climate and environmental mitigation strategies. The position is available from 1 November 2026 or soon thereafter. The position is within the research section Monogastric Nutrition .

The position
We seek a highly qualified candidate with a strong background in animal science, veterinary science, or biology. The overall aim of the research is to evaluate feedstuffs and develop nutritional strategies and climate mitigation tools aimed at reducing enteric methane emissions from pigs. In addition, the research aims at generating fundamental knowledge on baseline methane production across different physiological stages of pigs, including growing pigs, gestating sows, lactating sows, and organically raised pigs.

The successful candidate will:

• Participate in ongoing research projects and contribute to the development of new projects focused on climate mitigation strategies for pig production.
• Quantify and document enteric methane emissions, nutrient digestion and retention from gestating and lactating sows and growing pigs.
• Evaluate the nutritional value of fermented rapeseed meal and seaweed products and assess their effects on nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) excretion, methane emissions, and pig health.
• Evaluate enteric methane emissions associated with feedstuffs, feed additives, and roughages used in organic pig production.
• Participate in knowledge exchange activities with public authorities and industry stakeholders.
• Contribute to teaching and supervision of students at the bachelor's, master's, and PhD levels.
  
  

Qualifications for the postdoctoral position

• Academic qualifications at PhD level in animal or veterinary sciences.
• Research experience in pig nutrition.
• Experience in conducting different types of animal experiments.
• Skills in the analysis of experimental data and the scientific communication of research results.
• For non-Scandinavian candidates, an effort to learn to read, write, and speak Danish is a requirement.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self.

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation .

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary and terms as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Unions at basic salary steps 4-8.
