Purpose of the Job
The Engineering Manager leads and develops high-performing engineering teams that build reliable, scalable and customer-focused digital products for Ikano. The role combines people leadership, technical judgment and delivery ownership, ensuring teams have the clarity, autonomy and engineering standards needed to move fast while maintaining quality, security and long-term sustainability.

The Engineering Manager acts as a bridge between product, technology and business stakeholders, turning strategic priorities into strong execution while growing engineers, improving ways of working and creating a culture of accountability, learning and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities of the Job
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading, coaching and developing a high-performing engineering team, ensuring that engineers have clear goals, strong feedback, career growth and the right environment to do their best work.

The role owns the team’s delivery capability, working closely with Product, Design, Architecture and other stakeholders to translate business priorities into clear technical plans, roadmaps and measurable outcomes. The Engineering Manager ensures that work is delivered with quality, predictability and speed, while balancing short-term delivery with long-term technical health.

Key responsibilities include:

- Lead and develop engineers through regular feedback, coaching, performance management and career development.

- Build a strong team culture based on ownership, trust, accountability, learning and continuous improvement.

- Partner with Product Managers and business stakeholders to shape priorities, clarify outcomes and ensure the team is focused on the highest-value work.

- Drive delivery planning, execution and follow-up, ensuring commitments are realistic, visible and well managed.

- Maintain high engineering standards across code quality, architecture, reliability, scalability, security and operational excellence.

- Support sound technical decision-making together with architects, tech leads and senior engineers.

- Identify and remove blockers that slow down the team, whether technical, organizational or process-related.

- Recruit, onboard and retain strong engineering talent.

- Use data, team health indicators and delivery metrics to improve ways of working.

- Ensure collaboration across teams and domains, avoiding silos and creating alignment across the wider technology organization.

- Promote a customer-focused mindset, making sure engineering efforts contribute directly to better digital products and business outcomes for Ikano Bank.

Education Level
Bachelor's Degree

Experience/Demonstrated Competencies
- Proven experience leading engineering teams in modern, product-led technology environments.

- Demonstrated technical fluency with industry-standard engineering tools and practices, including Python, TypeScript, AWS, APIs, microservices, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, security and DevOps.

- Experience building, scaling and operating cloud-based digital platforms with high standards for reliability, performance and maintainability.

- Strong track record of partnering with Product, Design, Architecture and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused outcomes.

- Demonstrated competence in hiring, coaching, performance management and developing engineers at different levels of seniority.

- Experience driving agile delivery, engineering excellence and continuous improvement across teams.

- Proven ability to balance hands-on technical understanding with people leadership, strategic planning and stakeholder alignment.

Language Competencies
Tech Stacks: Python, Javascript
Language: Professional in written and spoken English

Knowledge required
- Understanding of modern software engineering practices, agile ways of working and product-led development.

- Knowledge of cloud-native architecture, APIs, microservices, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, security and scalable digital platforms.

- Can demonstrate knowledge about engineering leadership, including coaching, hiring, performance management, team health and career development.

- Understanding of how to translate business and customer needs into clear technical priorities, roadmaps and measurable outcomes.

- Proven knowledge around balancing delivery speed with engineering quality, architectural sustainability, reliability and operational excellence.
