The role:
As Commercial Director , you will provide senior commercial leadership across COP’s offshore wind portfolio in Korea, working directly with project teams and participating actively in key project decisions.

COP has established a leading position in the Korean offshore wind market, with a portfolio of large-scale projects at different stages of development. You will help shape and implement the commercial strategy across this portfolio, including ownership of business cases, project economics, investment analysis, financing activities, commercial agreements and routes to market.

You will work closely with project leadership, investors, lenders, industrial partners, advisers and internal specialists to ensure that commercial considerations are integrated into project development and execution.

This is a highly visible and hands-on role for someone who combines strategic judgement with the ability to work through and present complex commercial and financial matters in detail. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating across several projects, adapting priorities as projects progress and bringing structure, insight and challenge to important investment and commercial decisions.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Participate directly in project teams, steering discussions and key decision-making forums, ensuring strong commercial input throughout the project lifecycle.
• Own and oversee project business cases, financial models, valuation analysis, project economics and investment-return assessments.
• Translate complex commercial and financial analysis into clear recommendations and decision materials for project leadership, senior management and investors.
• Lead commercial planning for projects progressing from early development through investment approval, financial close, construction and operations.
• Support project-financing and debt-raising activities, working with local and international banks, export credit agencies, development finance institutions, investors and financial advisers.
• Coordinate commercial, financial, technical and legal workstreams during due diligence and financing processes.
• Contribute to the negotiation and management of strategic commercial arrangements, including financing agreements, offtake, partnerships, shareholder arrangements, land-related agreements, compensation agreements, acquisitions and other project contracts.
• Monitor the Korean energy market, regulatory developments, auction frameworks and other external factors that could affect project value, risk or investment decisions.
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities, develop appropriate mitigation strategies and ensure these are reflected in project plans, business cases and governance processes.
• Oversee project budgets, forecasts, commercial reporting and cost-performance analysis, working closely with finance and controlling colleagues.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with investors, lenders, industrial partners, advisers, government stakeholders, offtakers and other external parties.
• Collaborate across COP’s Korean, APAC and global teams, sharing knowledge and applying lessons learned from other offshore wind markets.
• Lead, support and mentor commercial colleagues, helping to strengthen COP’s commercial capabilities in Korea.
• Contribute to broader market-development, partnership and portfolio-growth opportunities where relevant.

Your experience:
We are looking for an established commercial leader with a strong understanding of how large-scale energy or infrastructure projects are developed, financed and brought through key investment decisions. You are likely to bring:

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, Law or another relevant discipline.
• Significant relevant experience, ideally gained within offshore wind, renewable energy, power, infrastructure, an independent power producer, project development, banking, investment, financial advisory, consulting or a related environment.
• A strong track record in commercial leadership, project finance, investment analysis or business-case ownership for complex energy or infrastructure projects.
• Experience participating in major projects through development, investment approval and financial close. Exposure to construction or operations would be an advantage.
• Advanced understanding of financial modelling, valuation, project economics, sensitivities, risk analysis and investment appraisal.
• Experience working with lenders, investors, financial advisers, legal advisers, technical consultants and other project-financing stakeholders.
• The ability to analyse complex information and convert it into clear commercial recommendations for senior decision-makers.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder-management capabilities, with the confidence to influence project leaders, investors, partners and advisers.
• Experience working within international, matrixed and cross-functional organisations.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex commercial matters clearly.
• Professional fluency in English.
• Korean language capability and a strong understanding of the Korean energy, infrastructure or financing environment would be highly advantageous.
